Raceways Schools Out Run

It may be the middle of August and school may well be out, but that didn’t stop runners from descending on Moreton Morrell last Saturday all dressed up for school. The ‘Summer Sun Schools Out Run’ organised by Raceways saw runners turn out in force to enjoy a great day. A dozen Spa Striders  gave up their Saturday morning to help marshal the race, and what a race it was. The Schools Out Run had something for everyone with a 20km, 10km and a Kids Fun Run with Treasure Trail, as well as great school uniform t-shirts for all competitors designed by Charlee at The Usual Studio.

No school uniform is complete without an ink splat
Of course no race can go ahead without tape, marshall bibs, start and finish banners and the all-important runner’s numbers, all of which were kindly donated by Asics.
Where it all began...

Proudly modelling their Asics numbers
Much needed relief from the sun was provided in the form of the delicious ice cream from the Scoopz ice cream van.

The day wasn’t all about adult runners, the Kids Fun Run and Treasure Trail made sure that the kids had a great time too. The children had a great time taking part in the Treasure Trail and the prizes were well worth the effort! Flip2BFit provided a great fitness board game for the winners and local fancy dress shop Stone the Crows also provided lots of treats for the goody bag. We couldn’t resist sneaking  some healthy fruit courtesy of ASDA into the goody bags too – yummy!

Hard at work

The prizes
After running a great race, runners enjoyed bananas provided by ASDA Leamington and electrolyte water provided by Elete Hydration. Of course the hardworking 20km and 10km runners couldn’t go home empty handed. Stone the Crows provided some great prizes for the runners as well as supplying us with a Headmasters Gown (well every school run needs a headmaster to keep things in order doesn’t it?)

Bananas galore!

A winner receiving his well earned prizes!
The day ended with a good old British BBQ. Runners feasted on veggie burgers provided by Wild and Free whilst the more carnivorous racers indulged in sausages and burgers provided by Steve Crowe and Son Butchers. ASDA were kind enough to donate the bread rolls. It was a delicious end to a great day!

Digging in
All of us here at KRF can’t do what we do without support and sponsorship from local businesses and nationwide companies. By providing all of these items for Raceways the sponsors made sure that the event was a huge success and all the profits will go towards helping even more kids run for free. All in all we'd give the whole day an A+.

Little Olympics at Kids Run Free

Olympic spirit has well and truly hit the country, and all of us at KRF couldn't help but jump on board. Last Saturday saw us host our very own 'Little Olympics' and we were amazed by the response we received. All four of our regular locations had a little Olympic spirit added to the day, including Olympic Ring inspired warm ups and the sharing of Olympic facts and history.  With Team GB doing so well in the medals table we are sure that now is the time to 'start young, stay fit!'

Concentrating hard!
As well as the usual races, this month we decided to run a colouring and naming of Olympic Sports competition that children could take home to work on. All entries must be received at our Leamington HQ by August 14th and we will announce the winners soon after. We've got some fantastic Olympic themed prizes to give away so get colouring!

Future Olympians?

Brantano Back to School leaflets were also handed out, and all children who present their KRF wristband at their nearest Brantano Store will automatically get a 10% discount.

A huge thank you
The day was  a roaring success and it wouldn't have been possible without our wonderful sponsors, so we would like to extend a huge thank you to the Explore Fund, Northface who sponsor our Birmingham location, Brantano who sponsor our Coventry location, and Junior Junction, Wild and Free Rugby, and Little Big Sports who sponsor our organisation in general.
