The Avenger

Hello everyone!

On Sunday 23rd June, Raceways held their first middle distance triathlon, The Avenger at stunning Ragley Hall, Alcester. The event attracted 200 triathletes from all across the UK; all keen to swim, bike and run through, along and around Ragley Hall's grounds and the beautiful Warwickshire and Worcestershire countryside.

The wind and rain made the conditions very tough so a huge congratulations to all the athletes that finished.

The day began at 7.30 with the first wave of swimmers setting off for a 1.2 mile swim in Ragley Hall's lake.

By 10am most competitors were out on the 56 mile bike course - 2 laps of the beautiful Warwickshire and Worcestershire countryside.

Spirits were high during the bike leg

The day finished with arguably one of the most grueling half marathons any triathlete has ever seen.

The hill up to the obelisk was easily the toughest part of the run course

The cadets provided much needed encouragement to all the runners
 The results were as follows:

Daniel Bradshaw – 04:28:50
Paul Atkins – 04:44:02
Andrew Martin – 04:47:00

Emilie Verroken – 05:14:44
Fiona Hunter Johnston – 05:24:39
Jeanette Walster – 05:51:19

Worcester Tri Club Team – 04:36:02
Team GC Team – 05:11:16

Avengers Assembled Team – 05:14:00

There are so many people to thank you - all the competitors, spectators, volunteers and sponsors.

All of the profits raised from The Avenger go to fund Kids Run Free a brilliant Midlands based charity which encourages children of all ages and abilities to take up sport.

Record breaking weekend!

Hello everyone! All of us at the Kids Run Free are over the moon following our last weekend events (and not just because the sun is finally shining!) Our June events were particularly special as we had some great turnouts. A record breaking 82 kids turned up at our Coventry location. At our Leamington location we had 80 children join us, including 6 new runners - so a big well done and welcome to all of our racers, both old and new.

June also saw the launch of our latest race location - Nuneaton. We were overwhelmed by the response we had from local families. We were joined by MP Marcus Jones and the Mayor and Mayoress of Nuneaton. And of course our trust mascot Joey was also there to cheer on all the little runners. Welcome to all of our new Nuneaton kids!

We’re really proud of all of the children who wake up early on Saturday morning to come along and race. We’d like to give a special mention to Charlotte who is 7 years old, Charlotte is a very dedicated Kids Run Free runner, June marked her 5th time at a Kids Run Free event and she managed to reach her best time ever 2:42 - well done Charlotte. Let’s see if you can do even better next time!

Another special mention to a completely differenct Charlotte now - Charlotte Knight who is 4 years old comes to our events with her mothe Mel. Charlotte has been so inspired by her time at Kids Run Free that she is even thinking of taking part in the Bupa Junior and Mini Great Birmingham Run. We’re so pleased that we’ve inspired Charlotte to take part in even more sporting events - well done Charlotte!

In other news, Justin our Nuneaton Race Director is raising money for Kids Run Free by cycling from the west coast of Ireland to the east coast of England. We would love it if you could dig deep and show Justin some support. You can sponsor Justin via his Virgin Money Giving page here.
We were also featured in an article in the Kenilworth Weekly News, you can find our more about our partnership with the 365 Academy and Quadkids by reading the article here.

And finally, The Kids Run Free Annual Festival has been confirmed on July 20th at Newbold Comyn. Last year’s festival was great fun and an ideal opportunity to get to know each other - so do join us on July 20th for even more Kids Run Free fun!

Until next month!
