Raceways - The Moreton Morrell Mad Dash

On Friday night a few members of the Raceways team made deals with the devil to keep the rain and floods away on Saturday morning. And whilst the wind presented some problems, the pact appeared to be worth it as the race went ahead and no one got swept away by floods!
Once more as well as being storm free this was also the biggest Mad Dash race we have ever had! To put this in perspective back in 2010 & 2011 we had barely 70 entrants this climbed in 2012 & 2013 to around 140. So when 250 of you turned up on Saturday it was a bit of a surprise!

The kids race kicked off at 9.15 with just under 30 kids ready to chase down Carmen and Joanna over a 1km race. Medals were rewarded to all and the results will be posted on our website very soon!

At 10am the 10km runners were set off by Joanna and made their way down the slightly wet and bumpy drive. Two minutes later the 20km runners were hot on their heels.

Come rain or shine - we will be there every first Saturday of the month!

Last Saturday everyone had a fantastic time racing at six of our seven locations - Coventry, Leamington, Solihull, Stratford, Coalville, Nuneaton and Birmingham. Unfortunately the Leicester event had to be cancelled due to floods. The sun was out in the morning, which made a welcome break from normal January weather. The unexpected sunshine raised everyone’s spirits, and the first to get stuck in were the parents, some of whom were there at 08:30am to help set things up.

When the event started at 09:00 am there were over a hundred children across seven locations ready to run races and many parents joined in as well. The wet January weather had made the ground really muddy so the children were splashing there way energetically through wet and boggy ground. Needless to say, many ended the race covered in mud but extremely happy, like Jessica attending Kids Run Free in Nuneaton.

The drive and commitment that some of the children showed was really incredible. One boy lost his shoe half way through the race but he didn’t give up, splashing a bare foot through the mud until he finished! Two year old Rita here wasn’t content to run the 0-2 races, so she ran all of them!

All the children and parents who came had lots of fun. Here’s six year old Sam, looking every bit the part of an explorer!

The children and parents had a great time together.

A big thank you to everyone who volunteered!
